What it is like
A shrub or small tree. It grows 2-8 m tall. The leaves are shiny and light green underneath. They are oval and 9-20 cm long by 4-10 cm wide. Male and female flowers can be on separate trees. The fruit is fleshy and turns from green to purple or black as it matures. They are oval and 3-5 cm long by 2-3 cm wide.
Sometimes also put in the family Icacinaceae.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. It grows in dense valley forests between 500-1,800 m above sea level.
