What it is like
An evergreen tree to about 25 m tall. The trunk is 60-80 cm across. The leaves are narrowly oval. They are 16-20 cm long by 5-9 cm wide. They are thickly leathery. The fruit are dark brown when ripe They are oblong and 5-6 cm long by 3-4 cm wide.
There are about 27 Mammea species. They grow in the tropics. Also put in the family Clusiaceae.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It grows in dense humid forests on low hills at about 600 m altitude in southern China. In Yunnan.
