What it is like
A large tree. It can grow 15-36 m high. The leaves are in spirals spaced along the branch. The leaves are 6-16 cm long by 3-8 cm wide. The upper leaf surface is shiny green and underneath it is green or brown. The flowers are yellow-brown. They occur singly in the axils of the leaves. The fruit are 2-3 cm long. They are red and fleshy. The seed can be 1 cm across.
Now also put in the family Himantandraceae.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. It grows in most provinces of mainland Papua New Guinea.
