What it is like
A small tree. It grows 14 m high. The trunk is 11 cm across. The leaves are 10-28 cm long by 1-10 cm wide. They are narrowly oval. The flowers are mostly on the trunks and branches. There are 1-4 flowers in a cluster. The flowers are white often with a tinge of red. The fruit are orange to red. They are 2-4 cm long and 3-5 cm wide. There are 2-4 seeds.
They have also been put in the family Memecylaceae.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. It grows above the flood plain in wet forests from sea level to 275 m altitude.
