What it is like
A climber or ground cover plant. The stems are spreading and twining. They are 3-6 m long. They are reddish-brown and woody. The leaves are 2-8 cm long by 1-3 cm wide. They have 2 lobes at the base. The leaves are thick and glossy and dark green. The flowering group can be 8 cm long. The flowers are 0.9 cm across. They are yellow but become orange or green. There are 2-3 flowers in each cluster. The fruit are nuts. They are small and oval and black and shiny.
There are about 20 Muehlenbeckia species.
Where it is found
A temperate plant. It is hardy. It grows in wet forests. It can occur in sand dunes near the coast. It can tolerate frosts and salt laden winds. On Mt Roland. Arboretum Tasmania.
