What it is like
An evergreen tree. It grows 30 m high. It has a velvety coating. The leaves are alternate. The are broadly oval and 15-30 cm long by 8-12 cm wide. They have teeth towards the tip. The flowers occur singly and are yellow. They are 10-13 cm across. The fruit is 4-5 cm across. They are dark red.
There are about 60 Dillenia species.
Where it is found
It grows in the mountain areas in China near Vietnam. It grows in mixed evergreen forests and wet places in valleys between 700-1,000 m above sea level. In Yunnan.
