What it is like
A fern. The rhizome is short and stout.
There are about 180 Athyrium species. Also put in the family Aspleniaceae and Woodsiaceae.
Where it is found
It is a cold temperate plant. It grows at about 800 m above sea level in pine forests in north China and Russia.
