What it is like

A small shrub. It grows 1.5-3 m high. It spreads 1-2 m wide. The branches are erect and have many ribs. The small branches are 3 angled. The leaves are 1-2.5 cm long by 0.3 cm wide. They are alternate. The leaves are entire and bright green. They are thick and crowded. There are 1-5 prominent veins underneath. The flowers are very small and cream. They occur in a spike in the axils of leaves. The fruit are 0.3 cm long and oval. They are shiny brown.

There are about 26 Exocarpus species.
