What it is like
A shrub or small tree. It grows 3-12 m tall. The trunk can be 3-8 cm across. The bark is papery and peels off. The leaves are opposite and 9-16 cm long by 3-6 cm wide. The fruit are 2.5-4 cm long by 3-4 cm wide. They are purple.
There are about 550 Eugenia species. They are mostly in tropical and subtropical South America.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It grows from sea level to 1,400 m above sea level.
