What it is like
A herb. It grows 3 m tall. The stems are erect and sturdy. They are slightly woody. The leaves are narrowly sword shaped and 10-60 cm long by 1-3 cm wide. They are opposite and taper to the tip. There are 3 cm long spreading teeth along the edge. The flowers are in oval heads. There can be one or several in a dome shaped group. This can be 1 m tall. There are many small flowers. The fruit is wedge shaped or cylinder shaped and 5 mm long. There are a few seeds with 2 wings.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. It grows in mountain forests and grassland and rocky and coastal areas up to 3,000 m above sea level.
