What it is like
A small tree. It grows 12 m tall and spreads 6 m wide. The leaves are dark green. There are bristly teeth along the edge. The flowers are small and bell shaped. They are white and have a fragrance. They occur in panicles.

Where it is found
It is a temperate plant. It grows in damp shaded areas along streams in forests between 400-1,600 m eastern China. It suits hardiness zones 6-10.
