What it is like

A tree. It grows 60 m tall. The trunk is 90 cm across. The leaves are alternate and simple. The lower surface is white and hairy. The flowers are 15 mm across. They are pinkish-white. They occur singly or in small groups on the twigs below the leaves. The fruit are 8 cm long and reddish. The capsule has long spines. The black seeds have an orange aril or fleshy layer

There are about 20 Durio species. Also put in the family Durionaceae.


Where it is found

A tropical plant. It grows up to 500 m above sea level.
