What it is like
A large tree. It grows 50 m tall. The trunk or bole extends for 36 m. The trunk can be 1 m across. It has buttresses. The leaves are grouped near the tips of the twigs. The leaves are 30 cm long and it is made up of leaflets with a leaflet at the end. The leaflets are opposite. They are 10 cm long and 5 cm wide and are not the same on each side. They are rough and end in a short tip. There are 15-20 pairs of veins. The flowers are in a panicle in the axils of the leaf. This can be 30 cm long. The flowers are small and white. The fruit is oval and fleshy with a hard stone inside. The fruit are 2-2.5 cm long by 1.5-2 cm wide. They are deep orange. There are 5 long fibres on the skin. The flesh is juicy and orange.
There are 12 Spondias species. It has been confused with Spondias pinnata and others.

A tropical plant. It grows in tropical lowland rainforest. It often grows on limestone.
