What it is like

An orchid which grows attached to other plants. It forms small clumps. The rhizome is short and branched. The false bulbs are 5-50 cm across and 1-2.5 cm wide. They are slender and erect. They are green when young and covered with papery bracts. The leaves are 5-20 cm long by 0.5-3 cm wide. There are 2-10 leaves scattered on the upper part of the false bulb. The flowering stalks are 15-50 cm long with 2-20 flowers. The flowers are 2.5-5 cm across and white or pink.

There are about 900-1200 Dendrobium species orchids.


Where it is found

A tropical plant. It grows in northern Western Australia. It grows on paperbarks in semi-swampy woodland. It grows in places with bright light. It can survive dry periods. It needs a temperature above 12-15°C.
