What it is like
An orchid. It is small. The stems are 10-25 cm high. The flowers are 1 cm across. There are many small scented flowers on the stalk. The sepals and petals form a purple to red hood. In bud it looks like it has been burnt.
There are about 33 Orchis species.
Where it is found
It grows up to 2000 m altitude.
