What it is like
A tree. It grows 8-12 m high. The trunk is twisted and 60-80 cm across. The leaves are simple and alternate. The leaves are oval and smooth. They are 7-10 cm long by 7-8 cm wide. The base is heart shaped. The central vein is easy to see and there are 5-6 side veins. The flowers hang down. They are 5 mm across. The fruit are 10 mm long by 12 mm wide. The seeds are black.
There are between 120-200 Coccoloba species in tropical America.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. In Bolivia it grows below 700 m altitude.
