What it is like
A shrub with many branches. It grows 2 m high. It spreads to about 1.5 m wide. There are many leaves and they are alternate. The leaves have sharp points. The leaves are 12 mm long by 1.5 mm wide. They are narrow and spiny. The flowers are small and white and like tubes or bell shaped. They hang near the ends of branches. The fruit is a pink or reddish berry. It is 9 mm wide.
There are about 15 Cyathodes species. Naming confused. Checklist Tas says now Leptecophylla oxycedrus. The Plant List suggests probably Styphelia abietina.
Where it is found
It is a temperate plant. It grows on rocky outcrops. It also grows on heaths and wet scrub. It needs well drained light soil. It can tolerate extended dry periods but needs protection from salt winds. Arboretum Tasmania.
