What it is like

A tree. It grows to 15-25 m high. The trunk is 60-80 cm across. The leaves are alternate and 8-13 cm long by 3.5-5 cm wide. They taper to the tip. The leaf stalk is 2-3 cm long. The fruit is fleshy and with a hard stone inside. It is oval and 3-4 cm long by 2.5 cm wide. There is 1 seed.

There are about 150-320 Pouteria species. They grow in the tropics.


Where it is found

A tropical plant. In Bolivia it grows to 600 m altitude. The rainfall is 1000-1500 mm per year.
