What it is like
A shrub. It grows 1-2 m tall. The branches are slender and smooth. The leaves are narrowly oval and wedge shaped at the base. They are 10-20 cm long by 4-6 cm wide. There are 6-8 pairs of side veins. The flowers occur singly in the axils of leaves. They are 2 cm long before they open. The fruit are smooth and oval and 12 mm long. They have 2 cells and 2 seeds. They are red.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. It occurs in the Cameroon mountains at 1,000 m above sea level. It grows as an understorey plant in dense forest. It suits the humid lowland tropics.
