What it is like
A tall evergreen shrub. It grows to 4-9 m high. The leaves are thick and leathery. They are 5-10 cm long. They are glossy dark green. The edges have sharp teeth. The flowers occur in flattened heads. The fruit are bright red berries.
There are about 60 Photinia species.
Where it is found
It grows in drier regions. It does best in full sun but can grow in light shade. It needs a moderately fertile, well drained soil. It is frost hardy. It suits hardiness zones 8-10.
