What it is like
A fern. It grows 40-60 cm high. The underground stems or rhizomes are short. The blades are sword shaped and 25-65 cm long by 12-25 cm wide. They are twice divided.
Also put in the families Aspleniaceae and Woodsiaceae.
Where it is found
It is a temperate plant. In northern China it grows in forests between 750-2,100 m altitude.

The young fronds are used as a potherb. They are boiled or stir-fried.
