What it is like
A shrub with many branches. It has sharp stout spines. The bark is smooth and brown. The leaves vary. They can be sword shaped or oval and 3-8 cm long. They can have 2 lobes at the tip. The flowers are 13 mm across. The fruit is round or oval and up to 2 cm across. There are 2-4 seeds.
It is used in medicine.

It is a tropical plant. It grows in the undergrowth in wet evergreen forests up to 1,700 m above sea level.
