What it is like
A small tree. It grows 12 m tall. The trunk is 25 cm across. The leaves are 5-13 cm long by 3-6 cm wide. They are narrowly oval and rounded at the base. The flowering stalks are at the nodes where leaves have fallen. There can be 1 or 2 stalks and up to 17 flowers on each. The flower petals are white or yellow. The fruit are almost round and reddish. They are a little over 2 cm across. They are edible. There are 2-4 seeds.
They have also been put in the family Memecylaceae.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. It grows in secondary forests above flood level. It can be on sandy or rocky soil.
