What it is like
A small tree. It grows 15 m tall. The bark is corky and deeply cracked. Young branches are angular. The leaves are simple and opposite. They are 2-5 cm long by 1-3 cm wide. They are narrowly oval and taper to a blunt tip. The flowers are white and in groups in the axils of leaves. The fruit is fleshy and oval and 0.5 cm long.
There are about 200 Canthium species.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. It grows in evergreen forests up to 1,100 m above sea level.
