What it is like
A small shrub. It grows 2-3 m high and spreads 1-2 m wide. The crown is open. The young shoots are hairy. The leaves are 8-18 cm long by 4-7.5 cm wide. They are oval, dark green and shiny. The flowers are 1 cm across. They are white and have a scent. They are in dense clusters in the axils of the upper leaves. The fruit is fleshy with a hard stone inside. It is 0.7 cm across. They are black when ripe.
There are about 400 Ixora species. They grow in tropical countries.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It grows in coastal areas in northern Australia. It suits tropical and subtropical regions. It needs a protected site in a well drained soil.
