What it is like
A small shrub. It grows 1-2 m high and spreads 1-3.5 m wide. The branches are spreading. The leaves are 3-6 cm long by 0.8-1.5 cm wide. They are alternate and sword shaped. They taper to the base. There are teeth along the edge near the tip. The flowers are 0.5 cm across and white with purple spots on the lower 3 lobes. There are 4-8 flowers together in the axils of leaves. The fruit are 0.5 cm across. They are round and succulent.
There are about 30 Myoporum species. Also put in the family Myoporaceae.
Where it is found
It is a temperate plant. It grows near the coast. It grows on sandy soils. Plants are hardy to frost and can tolerate coastal exposure.
