What it is like

A tree. It loses its leaves during the year. It grows 6-22 m high. The new branches are hairy but lose their hairs. The leaves are broadly oval and 4-12 cm long by 3-6 cm wide. They are rounded at the base and have teeth along the edge. The leaf stalk is 1-3 cm long. The flower are white and in groups of 30-60 at the ends of branches. The groups are 10-15 cm long. The fruit is round and 5-6 mm across. It is black and sweet. The stone is 4-5 mm long.


Where it is found

It grows in the mountains of western Hubei. It grows in forests along streams between 1,100-2,400 m altitude.
