What it is like
A stout herb. It has a long rootstock that is 1-3 cm thick. It grows 7-35 cm tall. The leaves are fleshy and narrowly oval and heart shaped at the base. The flowers are red to purple in large leafy clusters.
Where it is found
It is a temperate plant. In the Himalayas it grows between 2,750-3,700 m above sea level.
