What it is like
An evergreen tree. It grows 25 m tall. The young branches are hairy. The leaves are broadly oblong and 6-15 cm long by 3-9 cm wide. They are leathery and the base is wedge shaped. There are 2 small glands. They are purplish and there are teeth towards the end. The flowering shoots can have 1 or 2 short branches. The fruit are capsules with 3 sections. They are 1.5 cm across.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It grows on limestone mountains at 300-500 m altitude in Vietnam. It suits tropical monsoon climates. It can tolerate shade when young. In Yunnan.
