What it is like
An erect shrub or small tree. It can grow 15 m tall. The leaves are oval and densely covered with short hairs. They are whitish underneath. The flowers are in panicles and the flowers are pink, blue or purple. They are 3 mm across. The fruit is fleshy and bright pink to purple.

It is a tropical plant. It grows in open places in mixed forests. It is usually near rivers. It grows up to 300 m above sea level. It has been recorded up to 2,000 m above sea level.
