What it is like

A small palm. It has stems in a clump. They grow 2-3 m high and are 3-4 cm across. They are very spiny and the dead leaf bases sheath the stem. The spines are 8-10 cm long and 4 sided. The leaves are 1 m long with a sheath 20 cm long. The segments of the leaf are 16 cm long by 1.5 cm wide. They are rigid and sword shaped.
