What it is like
A palm. It usually grows as a group of stems. It grows 3-6 m tall. The trunks are 4 cm across. They have rings of spines 3-8 cm long. The sheaths are 27-85 cm long. The leaves are 1.2-1.4 m long with 14-23 leaflets on each side. The fruit are 1.5-3 cm long by 1.5-2 cm wide.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. It grows in the lowland rainforest between 20-675 m above sea level.
