What it is like
A tree. It grows 20-30 m high. The trunk is 40-90 cm across. It can have short, thick buttresses. The leaves are sword shaped. They are 6-24 cm long by 2-6 cm wide. The leaf stalk is slender and 2-5 cm long. The flowering panicles are near the ends of branches. They are pyramid shaped and 10-40 cm long. They are open and spreading. The flowers are whitish-green to pale yellow. They have long flower stalks, The flowers are small and have a sweet smell. The fruit is like a small mango. It is 6-10 cm long by 4-5 cm wide. They are pale yellow at maturity. The flesh is soft and juicy. It is yellow and fibrous. The stone is 4.5-5.5 cm long by 2-3 cm wide and 1.3-1.6 cm thick. The seed develops several embryos.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. They grow in the humid tropics. In southern China it grows in lowland forests at about 300 m above sea level. In Yunnan.
