What it is like

An evergreen herb with leaves at the base. It is like a pineapple plant and has spines. The leaves are long and hang down. They are narrow and do not have leaf stalks. The flowers are tube shaped. It produces berries.

It is a tropical plant. It cannot stand frosts. In Colombia it grows between 85-680 m above sea level.
