What it is like
A herb. It dies back during the dry season and then produces a leaf on a long leaf stalks during the wet season. The tuber can be 20-30 cm across. The leaf can grow 1-3 m tall. The leaf stalk is 1-2.5 m long and 2-4 cm wide. It is green with darker green spots. The leaf blade can be 2 m across. The flower develops before the leaf. The flower can be 2.5 m tall and a flower stalk up to 1.5 m long. The spathe is 25-60 cm long and has a constriction.
It is a plant at risk.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. It grows in moist evergreen forest often on limestone. In Tanzania it grows in the mountains.
