What it is like
A herb. It completes its life-cycle over 2 years. The leaves the first year are as a ring of narrow leaves. They often have purple dots. In the second year the flowering stem arises from the centre of this ring.
There are 13 Orostachys species. It is used in medicine.
Where it is found
It is a temperate plant. It grows on mossy tree trunks. In northern China it grows up to 1,600 m and can be to 3,500 m. In Inner Mongolia.
