What it is like
A herb. It grows 70-100 c tall. It has a horizontal woody rhizome. The leaves have leaflets along the stalk and one at the end. There are 3 or 4 pairs. The leaflets do not have stalks. The flowers are 7-9 mm across. The fruit has prickles and is 5 mm long by 4 mm wide.
Where it is found
It is a temperate plant. It grows on the edge of forests and on mountain slopes. In China it grows between 500-800 m above sea level.
