What it is like

A shrub or small tree. It grows 4-20 m tall. The leaves are oblong and and 7-13 cm long by 3-4 cm wide. They are thickly leathery. They are pale green underneath. The flowers occur singly in the axils of leaves. The petals are white. The fruit are yellow to orange when mature. They are round and 1.5 cm across. There are many seeds.

Also put in the family Theaceae.


Where it is found

It is a tropical plant. It grows in forests on mountain slopes and along streams between 500-1,000 m above sea level.
