What it is like
A tree. It grows 7-12 m high. The trunk is 30-40 cm across. The leaves are opposite. They are 20-25 cm long by 5-6 cm wide. Male and female flowers are separate. Female flowers occur as 2-5 together. They have stalks 1.5-2 cm long. Male flowers have stalks 4 cm long. The fruit is oval and 3.5-4.5 cm across. There are 1-2 seeds. They are 3 cm long by 2 cm wide. The pulp is white.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. In Bolivia it grows up to 600 m altitude. It is natural in mid altitude forests.
