What it is like
Tragopogon hispanica is a BIENNIAL. It is not frost tender. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and is pollinated by Insects. Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils, prefers well-drained soil and can grow in heavy clay soil. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It cannot grow in the shade. It prefers moist soil.

How it is grown
We have very little information on this species and do not know if it will be hardy in Britain, though judging by its native range it should succeed outdoors in many parts of the country. There is no record of this plant in 'Flora Europaea'. The following notes are based on the general needs of the genus. Succeeds in ordinary garden soils, including heavy clays.
Propagating it: Seed - sow spring in situ. Make sure to water the seed in if the weather is dry.
