How it is grown

Requires a gritty very well-drained moisture-retentive soil in full sun. Thrives in a limey soil so long as it contains plenty of organic matter. Plants are hardy to at least -20°c. A very long-lived plant but is hard to propagate, other than from seed. Grows well in the rock garden.

Propagating it: Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a cold frame. Sow stored seed as early in the year as possible. Germination can be slow.
