What it is like
Pedicularis oliveriana is a PERENNIAL growing to 0.5 m (1ft 8in). It is in flower from June to August, and the seeds ripen from July to September. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs). Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil.

Dry rocky places, sand dunes along rivers, open grassy mea-dows at elevations of 3400 - 4000 metres in E, S, and SE Xizang.

The flowers are used in Tibetan medicine, they are said to have a bitter taste and a cooling potency. Antidote, anti-inflammatory, antidiarrhoeal and febrifuge, they are used in the treatment of poisoning, inflammation of the stomach/intestines, diarrhoea and to heal obstinate wounds and sores.
