What it is like

Corispermum declinatum is a ANNUAL growing to 0.5 m (1ft 8in). It is in flower from July to September, and the seeds ripen from July to September. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs). Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil.

Sandy wastelands, riversides, field margins and roadsides in northern China.

How it is grown

We have very little information on this species and do not know if it will be hardy in Britain, though judging by its native habitat it is likely to succeed in many parts of the country, particularly the drier areas. It is likely to prefer a well-drained soil and a sunny position.
